Metz Boiler Room , Newcastle University
The client was undertaking an upgrade of the existing boiler plant at the University site which required the removal of the boilers ; installed when the building was constructed and weighing circa 16 tonnes the boilers were situated within the basement and could only be removed via the existing access well.
The boilers were removed in two phases to meet the requirements of the heating upgrade programme.
The area was first prepared and the boilers stripped back for removal. The boiler was then jacked and skidded out using specialist equipment into the lift position. The lift was then undertaken using a 200t mobile crane in a early morning lift to avoid traffic and potential disruption to the City Centre location.
The first boiler removal was so successful that the client specifically nominated ourselves to undertake the second removal which was again completed to programme and without incident.
