Removal of Isabella Branch Line and Stockpilling of Ballast, Blyth
Project involved:
- Pre Start meeting with client
- Establish site facilities
- Safety Induction of personnel and method statement brief
- Establish stockpile area
- During a site investigation a lot of drug paraphernalia was found so had to be removed using appropriate procedures.
- There was a live crossing which was situated outside the scope of the contract which was not to be disturbed during the works (work to cease 60 metres before railway crossing). A scaffold protection zone with warning signage had to be erected to stop unauthorised access from the crossing side of the site and a fenced off exclusion zone with signage was erected at the Port of Blyth side of the track
- There was several live cables situated adjacent to the track. The depths of the cables were unknown but had been located by a cat scanner. There were two live sub stations which were situated adjacent the rail tracks behind a fenced area. There was two overhead bridges of approximately 6 metres in height to be aware off one of which is known as Cowpen Road Bridge. Adjacent to Cowpen Road Bridge there was a live water main and control room.
- Removal of 2.3 km of steel rail track and concrete/wood sleepers
- Removal of rubbish and Ballast
- Ensure site is left safe and tidy
