Ellington Colliery

We were appointed to undertake the demolition of the last deep coastal mine in the North East.

The scope of the works included ;

Removal of coal conveyors including those over perimeter public roads for which road closures and planned crane lift removals were implemented.

Demolition of the winding houses.

Demolition of the mass reinforced concrete coal hopper loader circa 26m in height

Demolition of the conveyor tower 30m in height by pre weakening the reinforced concrete structure followed by controlled collapse

Processing on site of scarp arisings to minimise transport requirements off site circa 3500 tonnes of material

Salvage of selected plant items identified by the client

Lifting of rail lines and associated structures

Stockpiling of hardcore demolition arising for later processing and reuse as recycled aggregate 

The project was completed to programme over a number of phases in a total period of fourteen months.
