Training

The O’ Brien group have a detailed training policy and plan in place (in conjunction with the CITB) and are committed to the long term retention of employees. We recognise the need for the continued professional development of employees and aim to provide them with the necessary training and support to complete their role safely, efficiently and to their full potential. The company has a considerable training budget for the training and development of employees and we recognise that our employees are our most important asset.
The specific training needs of individuals are identified through clients requests, legislation and our own specific requirements and are delivered through the following mechanisms:
- Maintenance of an internal training department
- Provision of staff development programs
- Providing challenges and career opportunities
- Annual performance reviews for all staff
- Pre-appointment assessments to identify gaps in knowledge
- Awareness training and guidance on the application of the Safety Management Systems
- Delivery of specialist competence and health & safety training (both in house and external)
- Induction to raise awareness of specific issues relating to the workplace
- Health and safety monitoring
- Recommendations arising from re-active monitoring
Managers/Supervisors at all levels are responsible for assessing and meeting the training needs of their staff. Human Resource and HS&E Departments advise and assist managers in carrying out these tasks and in compiling formal HS&E training programmes.

- CCDO cards (Mattock Man/Topman etc)
- CSCS cards & SMSTS
- Professional Trainers certificates
- CPCS qualifications (i.e. appointed person for cranes, excavator, loading shovel etc)
- Fire safety
- Manual Handling
- Waste Management NVQs L2 – L4
- Environmental Awareness
- Driver Training – including NVQ’s, CPC, ADR Hazardous Goods & SAFED
- Work at height including scaffold erection/inspection and MEWP
- First Aid
- Demolition safety awareness
- Asbestos training including licensed & none licensed operatives
