Christmas Island, Eastern Pacific
- Christmas Island was a former UK military base, utilised in the 1950’s nuclear test programme.
- The island had a large number of prefabricated structures constructed in asbestos cement sheeting alongside areas of ground contaminated with lead residues.
- In partnership with the UK based environmental consultants a specialist team from O’Brien’s worked on the island to identify and process all the identified waste, this was then transferred to container ship for disposal in the UK.
- The team were responsible for all aspects and licensing of processing, packaging and disposal working closely with islanders to achieve a successful conclusion and improve the island environment for future generations.
